Tom (24) has been working at Flikweert Vision for some time now. Together with his team, he works every day on the software that controls our machines. In his spare time, he likes to ride his motorbike. He also likes to walk through the woods in his hometown Oostkapelle or meet up with friends.

Diploma obtained, then what?

Last year, Tom completed his college degree in ICT at HZ University of Applied Sciences, with a specialisation in Software Engineering. Not long after, he saw an online call from Flikweert Vision. “After an initial interview, it felt right away: an informal atmosphere, a growing company and a fat challenge,” he says.

Room to learn

Tom started as a Software Engineer. “The first period was a bit testing, but I was given all the space I needed to learn. There was little pressure, and that made it a very nice and learning process.” By now, he knows the system inside and out. His responsibilities have expanded, and Tom has had the opportunity to actively contribute to the technical progress of the machines.

A project to be proud of

One of the projects Tom is most proud of is realising a solution where one panel PC, the screen that controls the machines, can control multiple lines, groups and product models simultaneously. This project he worked on largely independently. “It was a big project and quite challenging, but I got a lot of satisfaction out of it when everything worked as it should,” says Tom. He also plays an important role in improving digital security within Flikweert Vision and manages the planning tools. However, his biggest focus is on making the machines user-friendly and adding useful functionality. “It gives me energy to work on improvements for our customers every day,” he says.”

Short lines

What Tom appreciates most about working at Flikweert Vision? “The short lines of communication. There is little hierarchy, and therefore a lot of freedom. The company is constantly developing and our machines are getting better and better. I think it's cool to play an active role in that.” Thanks to the high level of trust and flexibility he is given, Tom can do his job in his own way. “A lot of responsibility is given, but at the same time you get a lot of freedom in return to make your own choices, and that makes the work even more fun.”

Future vision

In the future, he hopes to develop further within Flikweert Vision and contribute to the company's growth. With his enthusiasm and drive, he confidently looks ahead to the next steps in his career.
