More efficient onion sorting with Flikweert Vision
Jonika, an established name in exporting quality onions since 1953, was looking for ways to optimise their grading process. Led by the third generation, Jaap and José Nieuwenhuijse, the company supplies onions to six continents. Optimisation of the sorting process
After a long search for an optical sorting line that met Jonika's exacting requirements and fitted within the current sorting process, Jaap came into contact with Flikweert Vision. Addition of the Divider
The next step in the process was the addition of the Divider. The Divider ensures that large stones and clods are removed from the stream early. This prevents damage to the onions and keeps the shearer cleaner. The combination of the QualityGrader and the Divider makes the process more efficient: product foreign materials are quickly removed, allowing the QualityGrader to fully focus on accurate quality control.

This investment has given Jonika not only increased throughput, but also a process that no longer relies on manual labour. This provides more flexibility in working hours and a more efficient workflow. The implementation of the new sorting line went smoothly thanks to collaboration with a consultant for the line design and Flikweert Vision for the detailed drawings. “Flikweert Vision ensured that every component fitted perfectly with our production line. We noticed that the preparation was right down to the details,” says Joel.
